I once heard an interview with Father Malachi Martin who said “if the veil of the battle for our souls were to be lifted and we were to see the evil forces surrounding us, most people would simply go mad.”
One of the greatest fantasies we’ve created in society is the idea that everyone gets to heaven.
That’s simply not true. Jesus is very clear about this. As a matter of fact, Jesus’ narrow road means that most people WON’T get to heaven.
So, what keeps us out of heaven? One simple thing. Sin.
Sin offends God and separates us from Him. Mortal sin, or as John calls it, deadly sin, completely severs ourselves from God.
And that’s why Satan uses every ounce of energy to entice us to engage in it.
Jesus never said “be the best sinner you can be.” He said “Go and sin no more.”
And doesn’t that make sense? I mean, how can we possibly spend eternity in God’s presence in heaven if we are still attracted to that which offends Him?
The laws of Moses and the teachings of Christ still apply to us today. As Jesus says in Luke, the heavens would pass away before the law was ever changed. Therefore we are held accountable for our sins committed against those same 10 Commandments.
Angels, fallen or not, are limited. They cannot read your mind nor can they see the future. So, if you want to speak with your guardian angel you must actually talk out loud or he won’t hear you.
Angels are, however, very smart, as they were created with the full knowledge of all that they need to function in both the material and spiritual worlds. So, they may not know the future but, human nature being what it is, they can predict what we’ll do next, given the situation. I mean, how many times has history repeated itself?
So how does this effect the battle for our souls?
When we sin, we give insight to those fallen angels, those evil forces, about our weaknesses. They will seize upon that knowledge and attack. They will attack until our last breath.
Without the grace of God, these fallen angels can predict your reactions to temptations and easily lead you astray. However, if you start turning toward God, they will recognize it as well. Satan and the demons have seen thousands of souls change their lives and accept Jesus as the Word made flesh, the only Son of God.
If you’re heading in that direction, they’ll spot it a mile away. And in that early phase they will bombard you with temptation to try and separate you from God and his graces by having you engage in sin.
Always remember that Satan doesn’t care how you don’t get to heaven. He only cares that you don’t get to heaven. And he will do everything within his power to steer you away from eternity with the Father.
So what can we do to protect ourselves?
It is only through living a holy life and the protection of God’s graces that are granted those who convert and seek his mercy that we are able to withstand this onslaught. And we can ask our guardian angels to assist us in our protection.
We should read God’s sacred scripture and live the hard life Jesus has tasked us to live. You should be baptized and confess your sins. If you are Catholic, you MUST go to confession! Allow the sanctifying grace of God to envelope you and lead you away from the seduction of sin.
There is a war going on at this very moment for your soul.
Angels and demons are working feverishly to lead you… it is up to you and your free will as to which path you will ultimately take.
