It was in high school that I first chose to become an actor. I offered up that profession to the Lord and worked hard for many years, appearing in numerous plays, commercials, television shows, a bad movie and a number of radio gigs.
Each time, before a performance, I would pray that the Holy Spirit would somehow work through me, through my work. I would pray that the Holy Spirit would be ignited within the audience so their path would be illuminated and they would know what they had to do to live eternally in God’s presence.
When performing, especially on stage, I really felt like I was changing lives, effecting souls, no matter what role I happened to be playing. I could feel the energy from the audience and I felt like I was really making a difference.
When the Lord moved me from acting to behind-the-camera and then into corporate America, I felt that my connection to effecting lives was lost.
That changed one fateful night, which you can read more about here on my personal blog. I realized that I can make a difference, no matter what my profession. The Holy Spirit is not limited by my career choices.
One of the beauties of the advent of the internet is the ability to connect with people all over the world.
Work you complete and make available online is open for viewing 24/7/365. It allows your impact on others to continue even when you are not around.
This is a tremendous gift.
The other day I was scanning various sites and checked on some of our films posted on Common Film. As I popped on to the Videos section I was happily surprised to find someone watching Purgatory, USA at that very moment. I didn’t have to prod them or chase them down, I simply made our small little project available on the website. And now our prayer that the Holy Spirit touch our audience is in play every moment of every day.
Some 25 years after starting my acting journey, I’ve come full circle. My hope of using my small, minuscule talents to praise the Lord in my own small way has found another home… not on stage, but online, where the Holy Spirit can use all of us as members of the Body of Christ to change souls around the world.
