Set before us was a seemingly impossible task… to shoot 14 pages of a short film in four hours.
Impossible. My mind was certain that all of our work and effort would end up for naught… after all, the actor playing God, John Snell, drove down from Atlanta and we only had him for the one day. If we had to reshoot the next weekend, it would require another drive and another hotel stay and more time and more money.
Plus, we only secured the Cinema Cafe location for four hours.
14 pages in four hours… impossible.
I had shot a 30 page script in 36 straight hours in college. I had shot a 20 page script in fourteen hours a few years ago.
But 14 pages in four hours?
Granted, I had streamlined the shooting schedule to make it as efficient as possible. And this type of story did not require great visuals, but to let the words tell the story, so it would only require a few setups for each scene… but 14 pages in four hours?
However, my soul, my faith, knew otherwise. After all, I had felt the Lord had called me to this. I felt this was the first small step in a very long journey. Everything had fallen into place. All the cast, the locations, the equipment, the crew… all had come together so well, it felt like the wind was at our backs.
So, maybe… just maybe, we could get this thing done.
