I’m plum tuckered out. Shooting Purgatory, USA is very exhausting. We shot 12 hours Saturday and another seven hours Sunday.
Ep 1 – 100% shooting complete
Ep 2 – 30% shooting complete (3 locations left)
Ep 3 – 60% complete (2 locations left)
Ep 4 – 0% complete (2 locations left)
It takes about four days to shoot each 10 minute episode. We’ll be done with the home location by the end of this upcoming weekend. If I can find some important locations, we could be completed within two weeks.
And then I can sleep. Oh, and edit. And clean the audio. And add music. And edit the opening sequence. And shoot interviews. And add soundtracks. And post them on the web.
And then sleep.

We also shot some of Episode 2… we’ll post those when that episode is complete.
Well, it was a long, long and tiring weekend, but we got a LOT accomplished.
On Saturday we worked for over 12 hours and finished shooting Epsiode 1 and on Sunday we worked six hours and shot three scenes from Episode 2.
Dorothea and Tiffany were wonderful. They expertly managed the material, taking previous rehearsals and notes and converted them into excellent performances. They compliment each other very well on screen. Dorothea has a natural beauty, and earthy, worldly look about her and Tiffany can be stunning and bursting with energy. It’s a nice chemistry between them.
It helps that they are such great friends and work so effortlessly together. We had a lot of fun and many laughs during the shoot day.
We’ve also had great support from the Ross’ family as a majority of this shoot is occurring at their house. They have been wonderful, doing everything we’ve asked them to do and MORE, including feeding us and keeping us heavily caffeinated.
There is still so much to do and so much we need, especially location-wise (theater locations), so prayers are needed!

Here are some pics from our first day of shooting last weekend. We setup a dolly for a tracking shot for the opening of the series.
None of this was in the script, but the result of having to fix a continuity problem. In the end, I like it much better than what was originally written.
Dorothea dressed the set herself to make it what the character would have in her own bedroom.
We moved some furniture around to bring closer to the camera to give an increased sense of movement to the shot.

Sometimes the most effective shots are the easiest to setup. This shot allowed for a nice border around Dorothea’s head from the bed frame and a cross over her right shoulder.
On location at the park, Jake Severn, as the on-again/off-again boyfriend Scott, prepares for the shoot.

We’re scheduled to finish up the second half of Episode 1 this weekend at the Ross home. Tiffany, who plays Babs, can’t wait to start shooting! Neither can we.
